Tree Nut And Peanut Allergy - Peanut Allergy Treatment For Allergy Relief

Allergies are generally caused as a result of a malfunctioning of the immune system. Allergies are antigen antibody reactions to certain substances like pollen, dust, eggs, and certain foods. When a person is allergic to a food, the inference is that the body treats the respective food substance as an antigen or a harmful substance, rather than a food substance. In reaction to such allergic foods called allergens, the body forms antibodies.

Allergies can be caused by a variety of substances. Nuts and peanuts can also act as allergens to your body.

Peanut Allergy Symptoms And Treatment

The symptoms of an allergy to nuts and peanuts include:

Gastrointestinal disorders: The symptoms of nut and peanut (a peanut is not exactly a nut, rather, it is a legume) allergy may cause belly cramps, vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.

Respiratory tract problems: The allergy may cause a runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, sneezing, and even asthma in severe cases.

Skin ailments: The most common skin allergy reactions are the formation of red and itchy rashes called hives, eczema, and swelling around the mouth and face.

In severe cases, nut and peanut allergy may cause anaphylaxis, which is characterized by a sudden drop in blood pressure, swelling of the tongue, and trouble breathing.

As such, nut and peanut allergy may have grave consequences and you must be cautious to control the allergic reactions to nuts.

Here are a few easy ways to fight nut and peanut allergies:

  • The best way to control a nut and peanut allergy is to avoid the direct consumption of nuts as well as peanuts. Nuts include cashew nuts, walnuts, and almonds. As such, along with peanuts, you must avoid these nuts too.
  • It is easier to avoid the direct consumption of allergens, but you tend to consume these foods indirectly, say as ingredients in other foods. As such, you must read the labels of all packaged foods so as to avoid the indirect consumption of nuts and peanuts.
  • Some of the highest-risk foods for individuals allergic to nuts and peanuts include baked foods, cookies, candy, ice cream, and sauces. The consumption of certain cuisines like Indian and Thai food must also be restricted.
  • Also, you must keep a check on cross-contamination of foods that can happen on kitchen surfaces and utensils. You must not share other people’s food.
  • You should consult a doctor for expert advice on the allergy and its treatment. You are advised to always keep the required medication with you.
