I have a Hepatitis B can you tell me what I should eat everyday please, thanks.

(August 1, 2011)

Hepatitis B does not include a specific diet in its treatment. The emphasis is that hepatitis B patients try and eat healthy food as often as possible. A balanced diet comprising vegetables that are lightly cooked, whole grains and healthy proteins in the form of lean meat or even lentils and legumes can prove very beneficial. Fatty foods should be avoided as it could lead to long term liver complications. Smoking and consumption of alcohol should also be avoided.

Fresh lime juice, up to at least thrice a day can be very useful. Sometimes the food along with the treatment can cause nausea. The lime juice can remedy that nausea. It is also important that hepatitis B patients do not put on additional weight or become overweight. It is important that hepatitis B patients eat to reduce body fat or else they can develop complications like diabetes and liver cirrhosis.

Milk thistle for hepatitis B is also used. Milk thistle has an active compound silymarin, which comprises of a mixture of 4 flavonolignans. Almost 65% to 70% or so is a mixture of diastereomers of silybin. Silymarin is administered in dosages of 250 to 500 mg per day. There is, however, no scientific data to indicate the effective dosage levels of silymarin for optimal benefit.

Is vitamin b complex good for hepatitis b?

It is found that hepatitis B symptoms clear on their own most of the time. Many continue to have an infection of chronic hepatitis B, even though they may not exhibit any symptoms. In a small percent of the cases, it is found that the infection is severe enough and may cause immediate damage to the liver. In such cases, it is found that interferon and antiviral drugs help fight the infection. Vitamin B complex and other vitamins have not been very effective in fighting hepatitis B. Hence, there is really no connection between vitamin B complex and hepatitis B, albeit in the case of infants who are born to mothers suffering from hepatitis B, the infants do benefit from vitamin A.

Instead of taking vitamin B for hepatitis B alone, it is better that you take the B-complex vitamins for your overall good health. You also need to make sure that you should take all the B vitamins together as they are highly inter-dependent and large doses of one may cause some deficiency in the others. These vitamins are good for your skin, hair, mouth, eyes muscle tone in your intestinal tract and stomach, for the breakdown of proteins and fats and above all for your liver. You could also look up information on the internet with regard to vitamin b12 for hepatitis b.

Is whey protein good for hepatitis b?

Yes it is. Clinical trials have been successfully performed to indicate the beneficial results of whey protein in the treatment of hepatitis B. Whey has many biological components such as lactoferrin, alpha-lactalbumin,  immunoglobulins, glycomacropeptide and  beta-lactoglobulin that demonstrate a number of properties to enhance the immune system. Whey also acts as an antihypertensive, hypolipidemic, antitumor, antiviral, chelating, and antibacterial agent as well as an antioxidant.

For hepatitis B, a whey protein supplement is extremely beneficial. Whey protein has in recent times become increasingly popular, and this has led to manufacturers developing and manufacturing high quality supplements as primary products. They are also taking special care to retain the native protein structure, protein-bound-fats, and biological activity of the finished product.

Whey, as mentioned earlier, is extremely popular as a dietary protein supplement and is believed to provide immune modulation, improve muscle strength, provide antimicrobial activity, and prevent osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. There are a number of whey products that you can take for hepatitis B, such as a protein shake, or in the form of a supplement. If you plan taking whey protein for hepatitis B, it is best to consult with your health care provider first and discuss the benefits and adverse effects, if any.

Can you get hepatitis b from sharing food?

One cannot get infected with hepatitis B from food sharing, kissing, hugging, sneezing or coughing. However, you need to understand that anyone can get hepatitis B. Your chances of contracting hepatitis B are higher if you come into direct contact with the vaginal fluids, semen and blood of an infected person. This could happen mainly during sexual intercourse (if you do not use a condom), share needles during a drug taking session, go in for a tattoo with tools that have not properly been cleaned, and share personal items such as toothbrushes and razors with a person who is infected. An infected mother can pass on the virus to her newborn during delivery.

So your worry of getting hepatitis B from food transmission is unfounded.  You can go ahead and share forks and spoons, drinking glasses, food and drinks with an infected person and you will not get the disease. The best thing you can do to avoid hepatitis B is avoid the risky habits that pass on the virus to you. If you happen to live with someone who has the virus and if you are at a risk, it is best that you take precautions and practice proper personal hygiene.
