Diet soda Diet soda is bad for you, and you will hear this from a lot of people. It is not necessary for you to believe everything you believe, but when it comes to diet soda, there is scientific proof substantiating the claims that it really is not healthy for you. Diet soda is marketed as healthy because it does not contain any sugar, or very limited quantities of it.
Yet, there are reasons why you shouldn’t be having any of it.
• Diet soda does not help you lose weight in any way.
This is just a sales gimmick, a marketing endeavour. Till date, no study has proved that diet soda helps in improving weight problems. There is also no correlation between drinking diet soda and weight loss. In fact, diet soda, though non-caloric, can lead you to consuming more calories in your other food choices. • It is often claimed that diet soda is good for those who suffer from type 2 diabetes. This is not true. People who have diabetes, or any other disorder related to blood sugar, should stay away from sodas altogether. • Diet sodas do not have calories because they use artificial sweeteners instead of sugars. These artificial sweeteners contain chemicals such as neurotoxins. These chemicals have been linked to memory problems, skin conditions, anxiety, headaches, menstrual disorders, and even joint pain. There is a lot of scientific debate on whether artificial sweeteners are really good for your health. • Diet soda health risks do not stop there. Apart from the physical disadvantages, diet soda also makes you eat unhealthy things by triggering the feeling of compensation in your psyche. If you are afraid of getting fat, and are consuming diet coke, it can drive you to unhealthy eating behaviors. • The woes of artificial sweeteners are many. One of the things to be wary of is the artificial colors that are added to diet sodas. These cause you to have cravings for more sweet products, thus dissuading you from making healthy choices when it comes to your diet. When your cravings increase, you can also indulge in mindless overeating, which often followed with a sense of guilt and lingering shame. • There are many chemicals that a single can of diet soda contains. These contain a lot of toxins that are then transferred to your body. When you thus increase your toxic burden, it not only lowers your immunity, but also causes internal inflammation and can have a lot of psychological effects as well. • A lot of people prefer guzzling a can of diet soda instead of water. This can reduce your water intake and that is not good for your body. In the absence of adequate water, your electrolyte balance may get disturbed and your body may no longer have healthy signals of hunger as well. Diet soda may also satiate your body temporarily, thus preventing you from eating any other kind of healthy foods that may benefit you nutritionally. • Diet soda is also a source of acids. These eat away the enamel of your teeth. When you drink a lot of soda, it can cause deterioration of your teeth and is also disruptive for general health. • Apart from the health affects of diet soda, it is also important to understand that the consumption of cans and bottles of soda increases out carbon footprint. The sodas alone create huge amounts of non-biodegradable waste.
When it comes to soda, neither the regular one nor the diet one can do you any benefits. They are high in caffeine and may give you a temporary kick, but they are also extremely addictive and have no health benefits.
