Advice on asthma: Is there any link asthma & meat

Asthma is one of the most common respiratory illnesses and is characterized by the inflammation and narrowing of the airways. The condition results in the affected individual experiencing severe wheezing attacks, a shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, and coughing. The condition is known to affect individuals of all ages, irrespective of age or gender and recent studies show that as many as 22 million people within the United States of America alone suffer from asthma. About 6 million of this estimate are children. Asthma is a chronic condition that will be prominent at times while very mild at others.

The condition is the result of a reaction in which the muscles around the airways tighten – causing the airways to narrow and a lack of air to flow into the lungs. This results in the tissues in the airways producing more mucous than normal and causing the individual severe difficulty in breathing. When the symptoms are especially intense and the individual is experiencing a substantial amount of discomfort, it is referred to as an asthma attack. The condition cannot be cured on a permanent basis and any treatment performed is purely focused on reducing the prominence of the symptoms. As a result, the primary focus of any asthma and nutrition treatments is concerned with proper management of the condition.  It is essential to consult your doctor for asthma advice as you will be able to discuss various natural and allopathic treatments with him/her.

Asthma is extremely common all over the world, and so a number of asthma diets and natural home remedies have been developed to help alleviate discomfort in times of need. It is best to consult your doctor for asthma advice on natural methods of treatments before you use any of these remedies. One of the more effective home treatment options is to sprinkle some black salt on holy basil leaves and consume them. Another home remedy for asthma is to mix about 13 ml of fresh honey with 20 ml of a paste of basil leaves and consume the mixture as soon as you feel the attack start to develop. Another very effective asthma treatment option is to add two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds to a glass of water and boil the mixture until only 1/3 of the solution remains. Then allow the decoction to cool down before you drink it. Lime juice is also known to be very effective when dealing with asthma. One option would be to add a teaspoonful of ginger juice to a cup of lime juice and consume it when you start to experience the initial irritation of an asthma attack. It is also important to follow your doctor’s asthma advice on your diet and eating habits. Keep in mind that there are several exercises that are not advisable for those suffering from asthma and so it is important to follow a doctor’s asthma advice on exercise.

 Asthma Advice

Most of the times an episode of asthma are triggered due to an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction can be due to some fur in the bed sheet, animal fur, certain drugs, perfumes, dust, weather change or some food allergies. Foods which generally cause an allergic reaction include eggs, yoghurt, milk, chocolates, potato, wheat, fish and MEAT. If you have an allergic reaction to meat there are possible chances that it can trigger an asthma attack. The major cause of allergies in breast-fed children or children on baby foods is due to cereals, meats, whole milk and corns in the products. So if you are allergic to meat then it would be wise to avoid meat altogether to avoid any flare up of asthma attacks. To check the allergic reaction you can maintain a diary of the foods you consume, try and reintroduce a small serving of meat in the diet after 2 months if there are any symptoms of wheezing or coughing then restrict meat in the diet completely. Omega -3 fatty acids found in fish act as a potent anti-inflammatory agent and many studies suggest that people including fish in diet have low incidences of asthma flare-ups. However certain foods with higher omega-6 to omega-3 ratio like meat, milk or margarine can also worsen asthma.  So instead of meat you can choose fish for a healthy diet and living with asthma.
