How to overcome acidic urine

Acidic Urine Remedy

Urine is a waste product of the human body. It is a result of the filtration process that takes place in the kidneys. The kidneys filter the blood and remove the impurities and other materials that are considered to be surplus to the requirements of the body. These impurities and surplus materials are passed into the urinary bladder along with some water. Urine collects throughout the day and is often passed when the bladder becomes full and signals its need to be evacuated.  Acidic urine is a problem that affects many people.

Urine is, by nature, acidic. However, the degree of acidity is low enough for urine to be passed without any discomfort or pain. When the acidity of the urine increases, it causes discomfort during urination.

Among acidic urine symptoms, discomfort while passing urine is the most common problem. This discomfort is felt in the form of burning as urine is passed. The lining of the urinary bladder and the urethra are damaged when acidic urine is passed. This is why there is the sensation of burning. The problem is one that compounds itself as the acidity causes more and more damage.

The most common cause of acidic urine is a lack of hydration. When the body does not have enough water, it will pass urine that has a higher concentration of waste materials and a lower concentration of water. This causes the urine to be darker in color. It is also responsible for urine smelling stronger than it would normally do. In this situation, the most obvious acidic urine remedy is the consumption of water. Water helps to dilute the urine and will provide nearly immediate relief to the body. Acidic urine is common in hot and humid weather where the body loses a lot of its hydration through sweating. In such conditions, more water should be consumed so that the urine acidity is maintained at an acceptable level. If acidic urine has been passed, the individual should immediately consume as much water as possible. This will help the next release of urine to be less acidic.

Another cause for acidic urine is when a person holds back on their urination. Urine that is not passed tends to lose water content and will gradually become more acidic. This is why one tends to have darker urine in the morning after hours of sleep and urine collection in the bladder. Urine should be passed as soon as the urge is felt.

There are several substances that are present in human urine and one of those substances is Uric Acid. Several people are totally in the dark about how the levels of acid urine should be measured, what the normal level of urine acid should be, if urine should be more acidic or alkaline in nature, whether there are certain factors that reduce or increase the levels of acid in urine and the exact causes of acidic urine.

In order to measure how acidic the urine is, a Urine pH test needs to be conducted, which measures its basic or the acidic strength. Depending on how acidic the urine being tested is, the reading could range anywhere between 4.5 and 8. The reading of 7 on the scale shows a neutral pH value. If the reading is higher than 7, the urine is basic and if the reading is lower, it means that the urine is more acidic. Therefore, the lower the pH value of urine, the more acidic it is. Since the level of acid in urine should neither be too high, nor to low, a normal reading could be anywhere between 4.5 and 8. However, if the urine acid reading is below 4.5 or above 8, then it is a cause for concern, since a proper balance of alkalinity-acidity is essential for the proper functioning of the human body.

There are several bodily conditions & factors that could influence the presence of urine acid in a person. People who eat a high amount of acidic foods or suffer from diseases or conditions like respiratory problems, diarrhea, dehydration or diabetes usually have a highly acidic urine level. In addition to that, a diet that contains a lot of meat, seafood, alcohol, sweets & cranberry juice, lead to highly acidic urine. Moreover, consumption of citrus fruits, certain vegetables and legumes can increase urine alkalinity. It is essential to strike a proper balance between acidity and alkalinity in the urine.

There may not necessarily be any signs of symptoms of highly acidic urine in many people, at least at the beginning. However, the excessive uric acid forms crystals and gets deposited into the joints and the surrounding tissue. Two of the most common acidic urine symptoms include gout and kidney stones and both these conditions can be extremely painful. The symptoms of gout are inflammation, redness, swelling and unbearable pain, in the foot area.

In case acidic urine leads to gout, there are certain treatment options that can help cure the condition and alleviate the pain. After a proper diagnosis a doctor will usually prescribe the use of certain NSAIDs and corticosteroids. However, these medications could be very expensive and some might also lead to side effects like stomachaches, vomiting, nausea, ulcers and bleeding. Therefore, a proper diet that includes simple home remedies could be used to alleviate gout. People who are suffering from this condition are asked to eat black cherries and drink at least 12 glasses of water everyday. Drinking 3 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar in warm water, about 3 times a day can also be helpful. However, it is important to consult a doctor before taking any medication of trying out home remedies.

Cures for Acidic Urine

The pH of urine is between 5.8 and 7. It is slightly acidic to neutral. Infection is generally seen, when the pH levels are lesser than 5.5. Infection, in course of time, gives rise to alkaline urine with a pH of 7.5 or higher. Ascorbic acid is helpful in increasing the pH. Acidity in urine is typical of metabolic activity. Urinary pH is also low because of certain kinds of diet. Use of acidic fruits, like cranberries result in acidic urine. The pH of the urine is an indicator of the pH of the blood. In certain conditions, such as renal tubular acidosis, it is the other way round.

Urine is acidic in distal renal tubular acidosis, though the blood is alkaline. Foods that raise the urine's acidity are referred to as acid forming foods. Meat, grains, beans, corn, cranberries, coffee, fish, prunes and plums are acidic foods. Sour cream, supplements of hydrochloric acid, eggs, butter milk, wine, yoghurt and liver are very acidic foods. Apart from foods, soft water is acidic. Probiotics or helpful bacteria are helpful against bladder infections. Acidic urine is seen in case of dehydration, acidosis, respiratory diseases, starvation, uncontrolled diabetes and diarrhoea. A diet with legumes, citrus fruits and vegetables makes the urine alkaline.
