In the meantime, here are some simple home remedies for a cough.

• Avoid cold foods. Since cough is usually associated with cold, eating or drinking anything cold can only aggravate the condition. Instead, drink warm water that can give temporary relief to your throat.
• Apart from taking these precautions with your foods, also make sure that you do not expose yourself to cold temperatures. Keep yourself as warm as possible.
• Avoid oils and fats, even nuts like pistachios and cashew nuts as these have large quantities of oil in them.
• In your diet, also try to avoid red meat and caffeine since these can also aggravate the cough and the congestion in your chest.
• One of the simplest remedies for cough is the mixture of onion juice, honey, and lemon juice. Offer this juice to the person suffering from cough at least twice a day till the coughing subsides.
• Mix together half a tablespoon of ginger paste with an equal amount of pepper. Ginger is considered one of the most effective remedies for cough. When you consume it along with honey and pepper, ginger can relieve your symptoms of cough very quickly.
• Keep a clove in your mouth. Do not chew it; just keep sucking on it now and then. When the clove becomes bland, you can throw it out. The juices and the oils that you suck out from clove can help soothe the irritation you may have felt in your throat.
• Another one of the effective home remedies for cough is prepared by cutting off slices from a small piece of ginger and adding it to boiling water. Now add a few seeds of garlic and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix well and drink. This can help relieve coughing instantly.
• Add a dash of black pepper in a spoon of honey and eat it. Pepper can help loosen up the phlegm and the mucus that is causing all the congestion. When you repeatedly consume pepper powder, it will be easier for subsequent coughing to expel all the loosened phlegm from the body.
• You can use fenugreek seeds as one of the natural remedies for cough. Fenugreek seeds have a lot of benefits, one of which is to warm the body and expel phlegm. If your throat is hoarse from all the coughing, boil a few of fenugreek seeds in water and let them soak in for a while. As the water cools down slightly, drink it. Do this at least two to three times a day and continue till you get relief.
• Crush a few betel leaves and add some water to them to make them into a paste. Betel leaves have cooling properties, and when you apply this paste on your chest, it will help in treating the congestion.
• Bay berry has been known to be a beneficial remedy for coughing. It is often used as one of the remedies for dry cough and even bronchitis. Both the fruit and the bark of bay berry can help in improving the congested chest.
• Other home remedies for cough include garlic supplements and chicken soup. Clear chicken soup, with garlic and onion can warm up your insides, making the congestion disappear. This will help you clear out the phlegm from your body.
