If you have an idea about a healthy and balanced diet, adherence to the same is quiet easy. It is not difficult. Knowledge of the harmful effects of a poor diet pattern is equally good. Understanding any concept becomes easy, by practicing the same. Modification in lifestyle is helpful.


Eating at the same time of the day is important. A balanced diet comprises of all the essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, protein, fats, minerals and vitamins. Try including all the nutrients in the diet.

A food pyramid is also helpful. It is a nutritional guide to better eating. A variety of foods are included in the diet. Cereals and grains form the base of the pyramid. About 6 to 11 servings of cereals are recommended. The fruit and vegetable group are next in the pyramid. Two to four servings of fruits and three to five servings of vegetables are preferred. Animal foods and dairy products are next in line. About 2-3 servings each of both the groups are included in the diet. Fats and oils form the peak of the pyramid and is used sparingly.
