Diet After Kidney Removal In most cases, there are no specific restrictions with regards to what to eat after kidney removal. However, there are a few helpful tips you should keep in mind. Initially after kidney removal, you should consume liquids like water, broth, soda, and apple juice. Diet after kidney removal can slowly progress from clear liquids to regular diet depending on your food tolerance. It would be advisable to consume soft foods after kidney removal for a period of time. These foods include apple sauce, custard, ice cream, etc. However, this should only be consumed in the absence of digestion problems. If no digestive complications occur, you can then slowly progress to more solid foods rich in fibers. It is best to flavor food with lemon juice, herbs, pepper, and garlic instead of using soy sauce or salt. Intake of prune or orange juice is useful. Avoid having any canned, processed, or packaged food, as they may have a high salt content. Drinking and smoking should also be avoided, as this would slow down the body’s healing process. The most important part of your diet after kidney removal must involve drinking plenty of water through out the day. In addition, similar to the diet after gallbladder removal, you should keep a close check on the fat content in the foods you consume. Your diet overtime can include lean meat, and skinned and grilled fish or chicken. Eggs, soups, salads, and legumes are also extremely beneficial. Foods that you should avoid include fried foods, spicy foods, broccoli, beans, whole grain breads, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, peanuts, and pastries. |
