Fishy Skin Treatment

Any cure for fish like skin in winters only? What should be the fruit diet for glowing skin

The skin acts a barrier for the bones and internal organs. It also prevents the entry of disease causing microbes, into the system. Oil is synthesized in the sebaceous glands and the moisture from sweat is held intact, below the skin. In case of any problems in the system, the moisture is not sealed, thereby leading to dry skin, which turns scaly, in the winter. Certain simple techniques help to combat the situation:

  • Keep the skin clean at all times.
  • Avoid repeated washing of the skin, as the remaining moisture dries up, leaving the skin much drier.


  • Use a moisturizer, right after bath. This helps in sealing the moisture.
  • Rub some salt on your wet skin, just after bath. This helps in the removal of dry skin.
  • Oatmeal is an excellent scrubbing agent. it is a good source of vitamin E, which is vital for a good complexion.
  • Use baking soda in your water for bath. It provides relief from itching associated with scaly and dry skin.
  • Topical application of vegetable oil is the best way to prevent moisture escape from the skin. It might sound a little awry, though!
  • Soak yourself in a bath tub with a handful of corn flour in it.
  • Application of vinegar or olive oil also proves effective against dry skin.

A healthy and balanced diet provides overall health and well being. Adequate amount of fruits and vegetables provide the necessary antioxidants and phytonutrients. Antioxidants such as vitamin A, C and E, act as free radical scavengers. These prevent the onset of degenerative diseases, such as cataract, cancer, ageing and osteoarthritis. Ageing is a result of oxidative stress and presence of free radicals. A fruit diet helps to postpone the ageing process.  Apples, pears, peaches, pineapple, guava, water melon, cantaloupe and so on are the commonly available fruits. These provide fiber and water, in addition to other nutrients. Avocado or butter fruit is rich in fat and is not preferred.

Water is an important nutrient in fruits, which helps in the flushing off of toxins, drugs and other wastes and metabolites. This in turn protects the skin from drying and peeling. It is not necessary to be on a complete fruit diet, to improve your complexion. A balanced diet with whole grains, fruits, vegetables, cereals and dairy products proves beneficial for a good skin. Animal sources, such as egg, lean meat, deskinned poultry and fish are good sources of protein, which helps in tissue repair. It also rejuvenates the skin.
