Fat Composition in Carbohydrates

Most of the carbohydrates contain little or no fat, but then a question arises whether consuming more carbohydrates can make you fat or convert into fat. Carbohydrates are broken down in the body to glucose which provides instant energy required for the daily activities we perform. The extra glucose is converted in to glycogen, a storage form of carbohydrate and stored in the muscles. But remember about 40 % of the carbohydrates can be converted to fatty acids in the body and stored as fat. No calorie is expelled from the body, calories from fat are converted in to fats in the body directly, but excess calories from carbohydrates as well as proteins are also converted to fat and stored in the body.  When a person consumes a high carbohydrate diet there is excess glucose in the blood stream which in turn promotes the production of excess insulin.

Large amounts of insulin can stop the metabolism of existing fat in the body and large amounts of glucose can cause excess storage of new fat in the body. Thus a high carbohydrate diet can cause fattening in two ways. For an ideal healthy diet one should go for a balance composition of nutrients like 50-55% carbohydrates, 15-20% protein and 20-25% fat (should be modified according to a person's requirement).
