Question on PMS pimples

How to deal with PMS pimples
(October 20, 2010)

Pimples are one of the most common skin conditions, affecting thousands of people across the globe. Also known as acne, pimples can affect people of all ages. They are mainly seen on the face, but can affect other parts of the body too, such as the back, neck, chest and the upper arms. This problem occurs when the pores are blocked due to the excess of sebum on the surface of the skin. Because of the sebum the dead skin cannot escape and can therefore be attacked by bacteria.

There are several other factors too, that could lead to the problems of pimples in people. While this condition may not be serious on its own, it can be quite unsightly and can lead to the development of a lot of negative feelings like low confidence, lack of self esteem and poor self image. Hence it is common for people to seek various pimples treatment options. Pimples treatment is probably one of the main reasons that people visit a dermatologist.

How to get rid of pimples?

There are several methods that professional skincare experts can adopt, in order to get rid of acne problems. Some of these pimples treatment options include over the counter topical lotions, prescription creams, antibiotics, oral contraceptives, cosmetic procedures like chemical peels and laser or light therapy.  However, pimples treatment not only includes the use of professional products and services, but could also include home remedies for pimples. In fact, it has been seen that many people initially like to administer mild pimples treatment at home, especially if they have sensitive skins.

Some of the most commonly used home remedies for pimples include:

• Ice: This is by far, one of the most effective home remedies for pimples on the face, back or acne affecting any part of the body. Cubes of ice should be rubbed on the affected area of the skin, for a minimum period of 10 to 15 minutes, about twice or three times a day.
• Tea tree oil: This essential oil is another effective and widely used home remedy for pimples treatment. However, essential oils should never be diluted directly on the skin. Instead, two or tree drops of tea tree essential oil should be diluted in water and directly applied on the pimples topically. Tea tree oil contains antibacterial properties, which help reduce the condition. Other varieties of essential oils that are good for curing pimples are lavender oil and jojoba oil.
• Tomato: Take some pulp from a ripe tomato and apply it directly, on to the acne. Leave the tomato the skin for about an hour or so, before washing it off.
• Toothpaste: A small dab of toothpaste should be evenly spread on the acne, just before bedtime. The face should not be washed until the next morning.
• Garlic: Despite the fact that the smell of garlic is difficult to take, rubbing a few pieces of fresh garlic on the acne can help the bacteria disappear quickly.

In case the natural pimples treatment options mentioned above do not seem to yield the desired results within a few weeks, it is best to consult a professional dermatologist.

Due to some hormonal changes (a women secretes more androgens that is the male hormones) which causes to alter the pH of the skin. This when coupled with facial oil secretion causes eruption of pimples.
- Eat less oily foods and emphasize on omega 3 fats, good sources include flaxseeds, salmon, tuna, mackerel, olive oil, spinach, rainbow trout and mustard greens.
- Learn to relax, as this will also help to relax your adrenal glands and reduce the amount of androgen secretion.
- Keep your skin, especially face clean. Wash your face at least 3-4 times with cold water in a day.
- Don’t burst them, as they may spread or even cause black pimple marks. Give them little time to heal on their own and avoid using many types of creams or lotions (stick to one as far as possible).
- Be ready for these little unfriendly friends as it is an unavoidable situation which can be surely prevented by above measures.
