Alternative Treatment for Teen Eating Disorder

Eating disorders in teens are common as they are very conscious about their looks. There are many changes occurring in the body of a teen where they also have to face social pressures one of which includes attraction towards the opposite sex. Teens become highly self-conscious and many develop different types of eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder. Although these eating disorders are more commonly seen among girls, boys may experience these too. Parent plays an important role in identifying if their teen has an eating disorder as often teens tend to hide it from parents for months.

If a parent suspect that his teen has an eating disorder then extra efforts should be put in to improve the teen's self-esteem. Healthy attitudes about improving appearance and nutrition should be taught, however these lessons should not be boring as your kid will not like it then. Eating disorders can have serious effects on the teen's body which includes multi-vitamin deficiencies, lack of menstrual periods in girls, significant weight loss, low stamina and immune system, depression, brittle hair and nails, hair loss, mood swings, heart burn, bloating, dental problems, and laxative abuse. To avoid any of these or other effects of an eating disorder it is important to provide proper treatment options and guidance with the help of a health care specialist.
