1200 Calorie Diet Being overweight or obese is a condition that is likely to play a significant role in your overall lifestyle. There are a number of factors that cause obesity. While the most common negative aspects of obesity seem to factor around a person’s aesthetic appeal, this is actually the least important of an obese individual’s concerns. Obesity is linked to many serious medical ailments such as heart failure, respiratory illnesses, and blood pressure. It is because of the widespread threat of obesity that a number of countries all over the world have declared the condition a pandemic. As a result of the growing awareness of the dangers of obesity there are now a number of exercise programs and diet plans that have been developed to help overweight individuals reduce their overall body mass in the healthiest and most effective ways possible. Dieting is definitely not a new trend, but the advances in this avenue have seen a number of new and superior techniques and methods. One of the most effective ways of losing weight through proper dieting is calorie counting. Calorie counting is based on the principle that allows the body the number of calories it requires to produce the energy it utilizes to carry out daily tasks, but no more – causing the body to dig into its calorie reserves (stored in the body as fat cells) to create any excess energy required. The 1200 calorie diet is based on this theory and it is very effective as long as it is followed religiously. Many people try to increase the effectiveness of the 1200 calorie diet by reducing their intake of calories to less than 1200 calories but this is inadvisable as it is unhealthy and it also reduces your metabolic rate which means that you will not lose weight as quickly. The 1200 calorie diet does not list any specific foods, but will require the dieter to keep a track of the calorific value of all his/her meals in a day. It is also important to keep a track of the calorific value of the foods that you buy so that you can easily follow a 1200 calorie meal plan. An ideal1200 calorie menu would consist of a cup of bran cereal, a single cup of skimmed milk and a single banana for breakfast, followed by lunch that comprises of a tuna sandwich in whole wheat bread and low fat mayo, 2 cups of raw vegetable crudités and a single small apple. If you feel a little peckish late in the afternoon, you can have some sparkling water with lemon or even a nectarine while dinner should be no more than 3 oz of grilled chicken breast, ¾ cup of steamed green beans, 2 teaspoons of olive oil, a salad of ½ cup of cherry tomatoes and grated carrot and 1 cup lettuce. The 1200 calorie diet is a very healthy diet plan as long as you include nutritious low calorie foods in your menu. It is important to discuss your new diet with your doctor, especially if you wish to follow the 1200 calorie vegetarian diet as vegetarians may be at a higher risk for certain nutritional deficiencies. |
