Best Birth Control For Weight Loss

Birth control is meant to prevent pregnancy. Methods of birth control include vaginal rings, intrauterine devices and hormonal birth control. Apart from preventing an unwanted pregnancy, some women also use birth control to reduce the discomfort caused by ovarian cysts, fibroids and menstruation. Most birth control methods are known to be effective, however they may also lead to weight gain in some cases. The best birth control for weight loss issues is a matter that would differ depending on the individual concerned.

The interest in birth control pills for weight loss was generated a few years ago.

A new birth control pill that was introduced into the market claimed to also help in weight loss. The interest in this birth control pill increased further after a study in which 300 women were reported to have lost a couple of pounds after being on the pill for six months. This oral contraceptive contains an ingredient that other similar pills do not contain. This ingredient works like a diuretic and therefore combats water retention. Water retention is a common side effect that is associated with many birth control pills. However, experts maintained that there was no evidence to back up the weight loss benefits of the pill in the long term. They also pointed out that most of the women in the study had gained back the weight after one year. Doctors and health professionals advise women to follow a proper diet and regular exercise in order to maintain healthy diet.

Although there is no proven method of birth control for weight loss, there are some ways by which you can control the weight gain arising from these methods. It is advisable to discuss your weight concerns with your gynecologist. A doctor will be able to examine your health and can advise you on the best birth control methods for you. Birth control that contains a lower amount of estrogen will help to prevent weight gain. High levels of estrogen are associated with fluid retention. When you are on birth control, it is essential to follow a healthy, balanced diet. Lower the intake of sodium and incorporate plenty of fruits and vegetables in the diet. Avoid consuming too many sugary and carbohydrate-rich foods. Drink plenty of water as it helps to purify your system. Consume about 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Perform regular exercise such as walking, biking, jogging or swimming. If you are prone to excessive fluid retention, you may consult your doctor regarding the intake of fluid pills.
