Fearless FiberSoybeans contain soy protein that reduce the amount of total fat, LDL cholesterol in the blood and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Soybeans can be found in tofu, soy beverages, tempeh, soy-based meat substitutes and some baked goods. However to qualify as a heart-healthy food they should contain at-least 6.5gms of soy protein and less than 3gms of total fat per serving.Soy supplements reduced the risk of developing colon cancer by 50% and reduced risk of recurrence too. In people whose initial cancer was surgically removed, high intake of soy protein may lead to more cancer free years. Eliminating meat, and adding fruits, vegetables and soy foods (containing flavonoids), decreases estrogen and their adverse effects like uterine and breast tumors. Veggies Decrease Risk of Bladder Cancer -Eat lots of vegetables, and limit intake of beef, ham, pork and red meat (that raises estrogen levels) to reduce the risk of developing breast and uterine cancer. Intake of 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetable daily, containing isoflavonoids may offset some of estrogens effect on the uterus and breast.Fiber and Fibroids –Women who consume lots of red meat have high estrogen levels and are prone to uterine fibroids and tumors.Fiber and Colon Cancer –Recent studies have shown that high-fiber foods that include cereal grains, fruits and vegetables help in preventing the development of colon cancer. In countries where diets are high in plant-based foods and low in red meat and animal fat, people have lower rate of colon cancer. Diet for colon cancer chiefly includes fiber which indeed shows good results for treatment and prevention. Women metabolize fiber differently from men, and female hormones also provided protection against colon cancer in many cases. |
