Increasing Metabolism And Boosting Appetite With Diet

The word diet has been so misused by the weight-loss industry, that whenever we hear the word ‘diet’ we automatically assume that it has something to do with weight loss. Well, this is not necessarily true. Your diet is what you eat every day. The food that you eat plays a major role in determining whether you are underweight, overweight, or just right.

In a world that is obsessed with becoming slimmer, those who are underweight are often neglected. The truth is that being underweight can be as unhealthy as being overweight, and it comes with its own share of psychological trauma.
Were you the skinny guy who everybody picked on in school? Were you the only girl at the prom whose dress couldn’t accentuate her curves? Well there are ways in which you can boost your appetite and gain some pounds merely by tweaking your diet. Let’s find out how.

Increase Your Appetite By Raising Metabolism

Metabolism: Your metabolism decides how effectively your body is able to convert calories into energy. People with a slow metabolism tend to put on more fat, because their bodies are unable to convert all the calories that they eat into energy efficiently. Underweight people tend to have really fast metabolisms that prevent any accumulation of fats.

Calories: Calories are another term that is grossly misused. A calorie is simply a representation of heat energy. Each basic food type provides the body with a certain number of calories. For example, proteins and carbohydrates both provide the body with 4 calories each, per gram. Fats provide the body with 9 calories per gram.

Your body requires a certain number of calories everyday to function normally. Any excess calories usually end up being stored as fat. So, if you are underweight, your body probably isn’t getting enough calories. Well, the first thing that you need to do increase your body weight is to increase the number of calories that you consume every day.

So how does this help you boost your appetite? Well, a fast metabolism is a good metabolism, and that is something you can’t, and shouldn’t tamper with. What you need to do is increase your daily calorific intake.

This does not mean that you can start gorging on junk food. On the contrary, this will not help you boost your sluggish appetite. It will only serve to make you unhealthy. To boost your appetite try to increase your consumption of protein and carbohydrates and reduce your consumption of fats. Proteins and carbohydrates are rapidly absorbed by the body, while fats take time to digest. So if you increase your consumption of protein and carbohydrates, you will not only boost your appetite, but will also increase the amount of muscle in your body, and your energy levels.

The best sources of protein are lean red meat, skinless chicken, eggs, and fish. Make sure that you include these sources in your diet. Milk is another excellent source of protein and drinking at least one glass of milk a day can help to boost your appetite and gain weight.

The best carbohydrates are those that have not been processed, such as brown rice, whole wheat cereals, whole wheat bread, bran, oatmeal, and rye. The body takes time to digest these carbohydrates and this ensures that you have sufficient energy to see you through the day.
