ORANGE Citrus sinensis The orange was introduced into Europe from China and is now grown in many countries. There are many varieties of oranges such as Citrus aurantium, and Citrus bergamia, to name a few. Oranges are rich in Vitamin C, and bioflavonoids. The anti-infective property of Vitamin C is greatly reinforced due to the presence of bioflavonoids. Orange juice is very refreshing and nutritious and one glass daily is especially recommended during winter months.
In concentrated form, the juice is used to treat high blood pressure, colds, and as an anti-coagulant. PAPAYA Carica papaya The papaya is a rich source of proteolytic enzymes. It is also an excellent source of arginine, carpain, fibrin, Vitamin C, and carotene. Papain, the most important proteolytic enzyme in papaya aids in the digestion of meat. Papaya also plays an important role in controlling premature ageing and stimulates the digestive system. Papaya juice alternated with cucumber or green bean juice is an excellent cleanser for the digestive system. It is also known to enhance male fertility and is good for the heart. Fibrin aids the clotting process. Papaya juice should be taken after a dosage of antibiotics to restore the beneficial bacteria in the gut. It is also used to aid cancer treatment. The pulp from the juicer can be used as a poultice to treat external skin wounds.
