Homemade Protein Shakes

Protein shakes can really help with your weight gain or fat loss goals. Unfortunately, protein shakes available on the market are not always the safest bet for you. You do not always know what goes into them, and regulations do not help. For instance, it is not necessary to list exactly how much caffeine a product has. Similarly, these pre-packaged drinks and powders often contain ingredients that you do not want to consume.
Yet, a protein drink is helpful when you are in a rush and do not have the time to make yourself a complete meal.

The solution is easy: Just make yourself some homemade protein shakes. These are incredibly easy to make, and can be very tasty. You can make a protein shake out of anything you have at home. It is just important to understand what goes into a shake. The major ingredient is, of course, protein. Other than this, your shake should contain the other major food groups too—carbs, fats, minerals, and vitamins. If you are aiming for a natural homemade protein shake, then you can get all of these from ingredients you have at home. Try to stay away from supplements, as these will defeat the purpose totally. Ideally, you should even make homemade protein shakes without protein powder. Here are some homemade protein shake recipes.

  • Using milk: Milk is full of protein and is knows as a complete food. For a milk-based shake, drop a cup (or 2) of skimmed milk into a blender. Add some fruit like strawberries or bananas. A half a cup of ricotta cheese, which will give you the whey protein you need. Add some flax oil or olive oil into the mix. If your nutrition plan allows it, some cream will work wonders. Try not to add sugar. Blend this up for a yummy shake that is also healthy.
  • Using soy milk: If you cannot or do not want to use milk, you can easily substitute it with soy milk instead. You can get flavored soy milk, like strawberry or chocolate, and use it instead of skimmed milk. For some extra protein, add some peanut butter into the mix, and whip it all up.
  • Using egg white protein: Egg white shakes make for great homemade low calorie protein shakes. To make a good egg white shake, drop one cup egg whites, orange juice, pineapple juice, as well as some fresh fruit pieces in a blender. This shake is very high in protein and low in carbs and calories. If you need more carbs, add some more fruit into the mix.

You can actually use any ingredients you want, as long as you like the taste and they are not full of fats. Just be a little creative, and be aware of the ingredients that you use.
