Chicken Soup Diet Plans
Submitted by Loring A. Windblad on January 27, 2010
Chicken soup has long been known as the perfect remedy for cold. However, recently a fad diet with concentrates on chicken soup as the primary food, has also emerged. Though researchers have not come out with anything concrete regarding the diet, followers swear by its benefits and therefore it has fast gained popularity.
In the chicken soup diet, the dieter has to consume chicken everyday in all the meals except breakfast. Though its origin is not clear, the chicken soup diet seems to have emerged from the internet and spread through word of mouth and chain mails.
Since chicken soup was already touted as a healthy food with therapeutic benefits in flu, the diet has not been rejected outright.
This diet has to be followed for seven days in which the dieter is given five choices for breakfast along with a particular recipe for chicken soup. Once the dieter is through with the breakfast, only chicken soup can be consumed throughout the day.
There is also a specification of what drinks and beverages are allowed while on the diet.
While most people practice it only for seven days, there are others who believe that the diet can be followed for as long as you want and can be repeated any time the dieter wants even after giving up the diet.
Unlike most other fad diets, chicken soup diet doesn’t make any solid claims of how much weight it can help you shed.
However, it is implicit that the diet claims to help lose a lot of weight quickly, because of which it is so popular today. There are no exercises recommended to be practiced along with the diet. There is also no prescription for a change of lifestyle or an indication of a comprehensive diet plan.
Though there are many benefits of losing weight, these benefits are best seen when the weight has been lost in a planned manner with a mix of a healthy diet, lifestyle change and exercise. With crash diets, the biggest problem is that even though these diets help lose weight quickly, the loss is temporary. The chicken soup diet however has some particular benefits. The soup is low in calories and contains a variety of essential nutrients. The soup also contains vegetables which make it a wholesome meal and is filling.
If you are thinking of beginning this diet, it is recommended that you consult a dietician or a doctor first and understand both the advantages and the disadvantages of the diet. Doing so can help you plan your weight loss more accurately.
