Yeast Infection Treatment And Natural Remedies
Yeast is a fungus which is also referred to as Candida. Candida albicans is the fungus which is most commonly involved in vaginitis. Yeast is normally present on the skin of the body and also live in areas that are moist such as the vagina and mouth. Infections occur when there has been an imbalance between the level of yeast and the level of bacteria that are present in the vagina. The level of protective bacteria may be lowered due to intake of certain antibiotics.
Infections can also occur when new yeast enters the vaginal area. Injury to the inner areas of the vagina may also result in a yeast infection. Those with weakened immune systems are also at a greater risk for developing yeast infections in the vagina. Other factors that can increase vulnerability to yeast infections are intake of oral contraceptives, pregnancy and diabetes mellitus.
In treating yeast infections, it is very important to drink plenty of water daily. If desired, lemon juice may also be added to the water. Herbal teas such as peppermint and green tea are also beneficial and aid in the treatment.
Fresh food must be consumed at all times and processed or leftover food must be avoided. Vegetables such as corn, potatoes, carrots, beet root, winter squash and yams must be avoided and only non-sweet and non-starchy vegetables must be consumed. Vegetables may be steamed or cooked into a soup or broth.
Fresh greens are very beneficial and can be consumed in the form of salads using olive oil, lemon juice and salt. The juice of parsley and celery may also be consumed.
Garlic is an effective anti-parasitic and anti-fungal agent and fresh garlic must always be included in the diet. Poultry, eggs, lamb, beef and dish may also be eaten. However, farmed fish and meats that are commercially raised must be avoided as they can aggravate the condition.
Yogurt introduces friendly bacteria into the system which helps to regain the balance between the bacteria and yeast. A moderate amount of plain unflavored yogurt may be consumed daily. Almonds are easily digested and may be consumed after soaking them in water for one day. Refined sugar feeds Candida and hence must be avoided as it will worsen the condition. Cooking certain foods in the right manner helps in increasing their nutritional value. For example, it is advisable to soak whole grains such as nuts and rolled oats as this makes the nutrients contained in them more available.
