Any party is incomplete without eye-catching drinks and this definitely applies to a Halloween bash for kids! The simple blood-red punch, with a gnarled hand popping out of the bowl, has become a staple at almost every Halloween gathering. But don’t let that stop you from trying out other ideas for icky, spooky thirst quenchers! Given below are a few recipes for Halloween mocktails that will definitely fill your younger guests with dread and delight -
1. Black Bat Juice Serves 8 Ingredients - 1 Liter lemon soda (transparent)
- 26 Black licorice twists
- Ice, crushed
Method - Add 10 black licorice twists to the lemon soda and seal the bottle thoroughly. Place the bottle in the refrigerator for at least 5 to 6 hours, or until the soda turns black in color.
- Divide the crushed ice into 8 fancy (martini) glasses and pour the black soda over it.
- Place two licorice twists into each glass, to make delicious sipping straws before serving this mocktail.
2. Blue Slime Serves 6 Ingredients - 3 Cups blue jelly, crushed
- 3 Cups lemon soda (transparent)
- 1½ Cups lemonade, chilled
- 6 Licorice sticks
Method - Divide the lemonade into 6 clear glasses, so that each serving contains ¼ cup.
- Add ½ cup of the crushed blue jelly to each glass.
- Slowly pour in ½ cup of the lemon soda into each of the glasses.
- Allow the jelly to settle for a minute or two as the entire drink turns blue.
- Place a licorice stick in each glass as a straw before serving the slime to your guest.
3. Swamp Juice Serves 8 Ingredients - ½ Cup tapioca pearls
- 6 Cups water
- 4 Tablespoons sugar
- 8 Gummy fish
- 8 Gummy worms
- 2 Cups lemonade
- ½ Liter club soda
- Food coloring (Yellow and Green)
Method - Bring the water to a boil and add the tapioca pearls.
Allow the pearls to boil on low heat for about 20 minutes or so, stirring occasionally.
- Once boiled, divide the pearls along with the water, into two bowls. These pearls become the “fish eggs” in the swamp.
- Add 4 drops of food coloring to each bowl. While yellow, green and blue go best with the juice, you can choose any color that you like.
- Add two tablespoons of sugar to each bowl and allow it to sit, for about 20 to 25 minutes.
Then, drain the water and rinse the pearls with some cold water.
- Place about 2 tablespoons of the “fish egg” pearls into each glass before dropping a gummy fish.
- Fill the glass with soda and add about ¼ cup of lemonade.
- Place a straw or a spoon into each glass, so that you can curl a gummy worm around it.
4. Goblin’s GooServes 8 Ingredients - 4 Cups grape-flavored jelly, crushed
- 4 Cups grape juice or grape soda, chilled
- 8 – 16 Black grapes (Optional)
- 8 Black licorice twists
Method - Spoon ½ cup of the crushed jelly into a round glass
- Pour in about ½ cup of the grape juice or soda.
- Add one or two black grapes to each glass.
- Place a licorice twist, as a sipping straw, before serving this gooey drink to your little trick-or-treaters.
Alternately, you could just mix the ingredients in a large witch’s pot and let your guests help themselves with a ladle. 5. Zombie’s Eye Punch Ingredients - 1 Large jar maraschino cherries
- 1 Packet semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 10 Cups cherry cola
- 2½ Cups ginger ale
- 5 Cups red fruit juice concentrate
Method - Pull out the stems from all the cherries. Insert a chocolate chip, point-side first, into each cherry, so that it resembles an eye.
- Allow the cherries as well as the other ingredients to chill in the refrigerator for a couple of hours, before preparing the punch.
- Place all the zombie eyes at the bottom of a large punch bowl. Pour in the chilled cherry cola, ginger ale and fruit juice concentrate.
- Use a ladle to mix all the ingredients well.
You could also leave some of the zombie eyes in each glass, to increase the eerie feeling of being stared at.
