Fad diets are never recommended by nutritionists, as it results in weight recurrence and becomes difficult to abide by, due to monotony. Though, it assures immediate weight loss, inability to follow the same, in course of time, gives rise to weight gain. They are unhealthy choices, as uniform distribution of all essential nutrients is not seen. Crash dieting with rapid weight loss causes increased incidence of gall stones.




Abnormalities in heart rhythm are common in individuals consuming less than 800 calories per day on a regular basis. This condition is life threatening. Enhancing the physical activity and making the right choice of food is essential.


This also reduces the risk of heart diseases, high blood pressure and renal problems. People opt for a high protein, low carbohydrate diets, though it is not regarded as an ideal principle. Provision of essential nutrients from high protein foods, like milk, meat, cheese and eggs is not possible.


Such diets are nauseating, providing the individual, a feeling of fatigue. Ketosis is due to intake of a low carbohydrate diet, thereby increasing the uric acid levels, causing gouty arthritis. Limiting the calories and increasing the fiber in the diet is beneficial in weight loss plan.




Myths regarding the fattening effect of starches are widely prevalent. Foods high in starches, such as pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, cereals and yam are poor in calories and fats. A thoughtful eating pattern of such foods is important, as consumption of large portions, or intake with a rich dressing, such as mayonnaise or butter increases their fat content. Include lean meat, fish egg white and skinless chicken in your weight loss diets for effective weight management. Combining foods, such as cereals and pulses help in mutually providing the essential limiting amino acids.

Some individuals opt for soup diets, in order to reduce weight and burn fat. Certain foods hastens the metabolic process, whereas, fat burning is not possible. Weight gain can be curbed by calorie counting. Herbal weight loss products, in spite of claims, being ‘herbal’, might be unsafe for human consumption.

Many individuals are under the opinion that weight loss by eating all that he likes is possible. Lean meats can be a part of weight loss programs, when used in minimal amounts. Meat cuts with reduced fat and cholesterol is preferred. Protein, zinc and iron are the other nutrients provided. Myths are believed regarding the fattening effect of nuts. Though, rich in fats and calories, they refrain from arterial blocks. Nuts are good sources of fiber, copper, magnesium and protein. Weight loss should be accomplished under the guidance of a nutritionist.
