Foods And Healing Diets For Injuries

Injury: When damage is inflicted on the body, affecting the tissue or bone, it is known as injury. An injury can happen due to a sports mishap, accident, wound, trauma, health problem, or while doing regular activities. There are various types of injuries and various degrees of injury. While some kinds of injuries are small, some are of medium-intensity and others are severe. In most cases, small injuries like superficial bruises or skin deep cuts heal within a few days without treatment.
Medium injuries like severe bruising or flesh deep cuts or wounds require medical attention and at least a few weeks to heal. Severe injuries like extensive deep burns, deep cuts or wounds that go down to the bone need immediate emergency treatment. Severe injuries can require months to heal and a lack of medical attention can prove to be fatal.

An individual’s diet plays a large part in the healing process. Consuming processed foods or fatty junk foods deprives the body of the necessary nutrition to repair the damaged tissue.

Diet for treating injuries: You might use ice packs and pain relieving medication to treat your injuries, but certain food products and beverages can help treat injuries that have occurred due to work, sports or regular activities. Broken bones, swelling, bruises, cuts, sprains and strains can to a certain extent, be treated by eating the right foods i.e. the right foods may help you heal quickly.

Some of the foods that have anti-inflammatory properties include salmon, tuna, nuts, eggplant, curry powder, garlic, ginger, celery, olive oil, kiwis, oranges, strawberries, and grapes. A small to moderate amount of beer, red wine, green and black tea is also good for healing injuries.

Food products that are packed with vitamin C like peppers, kiwis, strawberries, and citrus fruits, as well as foods rich in vitamin E like olive oil and nuts, have anti-inflammatory properties.

Fish oil, which is rich in Omega-3 is also good for fighting inflammation. Research shows that seafood can help to fight inflammation in cases of ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, asthma, and arthritis. Omega-3 fatty acids are also good for people with rheumatoid arthritis.

The turmeric herb is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Water is supposed to be very good for healing injuries. While water not only prevents dehydration, but can also hasten the process of recovery.

Milk is supposed to have anti-inflammatory properties. The vitamin D in milk can help to build strong bones and in building bone density.

If you are recovering from an injury, you must be careful of consuming foods that can aggravate inflammation and injury. Some of the foods that you must be wary of are – products with omega-6 fats, food cooked on extremely high heat, processed cereals, white bread, white potatoes, white rice, sugary foods, and high-protein foods.
