Gonorrhea and Chlamydia

Gonorrhea is transmitted through sexual intercourse by the bacterium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Hence it is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It is a highly contagious disease and any person, of any age group can get affected by it. In this condition the mucous membrane of the genitals get inflamed that can cause burning and irritation. The condition may occur at any time of the year and is equally seen in both men and women. It is a very serious condition which may cause severe health complications.

It may cause the affected person to turn infertile if the right treatment is not started at the right time. There have several cases of deaths due to untreated and severe gonorrhea. The main cause of attaining gonorrhea is unprotected sexual intercourse. It can also cause if you have several sexual partners. The disease is also known to transmit from an infected mother to a new-born child.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are very closely related to each other. Sometimes, both these conditions are seen in an affected person. Chlamydia is also another type of a sexually transmitted disease which is seen in many young adults. The symptoms of both these conditions are quite similar. After you acquire the condition, you may start experience its symptoms in a few days. It may not be severe in the beginning but can turn nasty in the later stage. The condition has a tendency to spread to your mouth, throat and even anus. Chlamydia is also known to cause contagious conjunctivitis which could lead to complete blindness. It may also discharge a colorless liquid from the penis which may burn extremely. It is extremely important to notice the symptoms of this condition and start its treatment as soon as possible.

Treatment

In most cases, it is seen that these conditions do not show any symptoms in spite of it being present. Visit a doctor as soon as you notice the initial symptoms of chlamydia and gonorrhea. The doctor will diagnose the infection by taking a sample of your urine. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the treatment is started immediately. Apart from prescribing medicines, the doctor will give you a penicillin injection. You may have to visit the doctor every few days to see the progress. Sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited till the condition has disappeared. After you have been treated, it is recommended to abstain from intercourse for at least 7 to 10 days.
