Detox Diet

What is a Detox Diet?


Detox is short for detoxification, the natural process of eliminating toxins in the body. A dietary regimen involving a change in intake, mainly it is a treatment for alcohol and drugs and used also for diet.

Detox diet is a short-term diet. It minimizes chemicals ingested such as eating of organic foods like fruits and vegetables. Foods that provide nutrients we need for our body, vitamins and minerals and antioxidants like fruits and vegetables.
Eat foods that contain high fiber and lots of water to eliminate toxins and increase bowel movement. Some proponents of Detox diet would emphasize it as a lifestyle.

Many experts believe that the chemical of fats we eat or ingest through food and water and the environment can be deposited in cells in our bodies. A poor diet can also affect our body to detoxify toxins in our body. Fatigue, poor skin and pain are signs of the body not detoxifying. Before trying a Detox diet plan one must consult a physician if the diet is appropriate for you.

People who are underweight, lowered immunity, eating disorders, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, low blood pressure, ulcers, epilepsy, cancer, anemia, or addictions to drugs or alcohol should not try a Detox diet unless recommended by a physician.

The common side effect of a Detox diet plan is headache for the first few days. Some people will experience diarrhea which causes as we all know dehydration and electrolyte loss. However, if they increase their fiber intake and lessen water, it may cause constipation.

Nevertheless, remember that the detox diet is short term only. So if continued for a long period of time Detox diet may result in nutrient deficiency, most likely protein. Detox diet may not be the safest diet foe weight loss as it is one the restrictive diets. The lack of protein often results in the reducing of muscle mass due to lack of amino acids for repair.  Changes recommended in a Detox diet plan lifestyle are the ones that consume a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Supposedly it would determine the results of a Detox diet from purifying the body of toxins or simply due to improving one's intake of fruits and vegetables is not possible.  If you want to start a Detox diet plan, then it would be real best to consult doctor to avoid unhealthy intake of your diet.
